The Core Word Programme is now an app too!

We have 39 weeks per academic year and have three years worth of content as part of the programme. There are many different symbol, sign language and accent options to choose from so you should be able to find what your setting use.

Each week contains 9 different sessions, you can complete these in any order and at any time that suits your timetable best.

Let's have a look at each section in more detail;

Say it section:

This section includes your chosen symbol and your chosen sign language example. It's a great way for adults and pupils to learn new ways of communicating these words together, to use through out the other activities in the week. There is a sign language video included to assure accuracy.

Find it Section:

This section is an interactive core board that says the word when you touch it. You can use this board throughout the week to support communication in all activities. It matches the printable versions too. A great way to practise using high tech AAC for adults and learners!

Hear it Section:

These are a range of genres of songs that link to the core word of the week, we like to use these in movement break time or at lunchtime, which is a lovely way to embed the core word in other parts of the day. The learners love to select from the 4 songs available.

Watch it Section:

The watch it section works in a similar way to the Hear It Section, but with longer video clips linked to the core word of the week.

Play it Section:

There is a different game per week, linked to the core word. It is a great for learners to practise and for adults to assess understanding. Here are a few examples:

Read it Section:

There are two sections to the Read it Section, firstly an interactive section in which learners can practise reading the core word and linking previous and common fringe words either through written word or symbols. When you touch the symbol or text it reads the word for you in your chosen accent. It is a fantastic way to learn to read the core word as well as other common words.

The second section details good books for story time that include the core word within them, or at least the concept. These are all videos too, so if you do not have the book someone will read it to you through the video link.

Learn it Section:

Our pupils learn best through sensory exploration. This section includes RISE session planning and video examples of a fun Core Word related session that you could put together.

Practise it Section:

This section is differentiated into three specific levels, with five lesson ideas for each, many are table or group tasks. All of the lessons link to the core word of the week.

Write it Section:

This section is an opportunity to practise writing or mark making skills. The learners can trace the two pages available, choosing their pen and colours of choice.
