In Week 4 of my Core Word Programme, we were focussing on the handy word “It.” To incorporate this into my Attention Autism session, I used some fun, sensory activities that encouraged attention and interaction whilst modelling "It".
Stage 1
I started with the ever-popular Bucket activity, and inside were a balloon and balloon pump, clacker, and sound button. Pumping up a balloon, I modelled "pump it", "it is big", "let it go" and "it is gone". With the sound button, "it is noisy", and with the clacker, "it is spinning".
Stage 2
The second activity was "splat". Here, I pointed out the colours of the paint blobs "it is blue", "it is green" before and after they went splat!
Stage 3
Lastly, with wooden blocks, I modelled, and encouraged my learners to "build it" and "watch it fall".
Modelling the use of the word helps to reinforce it, and through fun, engaging activities we encourage the children in our care to use and understand it.

I'd love to know how you model and encourage the use of the word "it" in your classroom? Do you use Attention Autism techniques? Join in the conversation and let me know below!
There are a years worth of core word based attention autism ideas included in the core word programme, which can be found here.
You can also get four years worth of fun attention autism ideas for Stages 1-4 (separate to the core words) here.
Check out Attention Autism here, they've just updated their training and I really recommend it.
