Speech & Language apps
This app is great for choosing between photos in a grid of 2+ items. The perfect way to introduce using high tech AAC to pupils and assessing their dexterity and understanding before introducing paid apps.
There is lots to this app including high tech AAC, Now & Next, communication books are more. The Twinkl images are already loaded onto it for ease, or you can use photos. We use this app with PMLD pupils as an introduction to high tech AAC. Great for making choices or single phrases like "Good Morning!" at register time.
This app is fantastic to use in a similar way to intensive interaction, the simple monotone faces react to your vocalisations or body sounds. The louder the sound the bigger the reaction given. This is a great way to encourage vocalisations for non-speaking pupils.
Cause and Effect apps
These apps are popular for PMLD pupils in my classroom. With single touch cause and effect movement and music it is highly motivating and achievable. The apps also fit nicely within our topics, offering an alternative way of accessing the curriculum.

All of my pupils like this one, no matter their diagnosis or ability. There is something about the touch reaction that is mesmerising. The harder you press the 'hotter' the imprint you make, before it fades away.
This intense and mesmerising app is highly engaging. use your fingers, palm (or nose!) to create swirling light patterns. This app reacts directly to your touch so encourages finger pointing and enhances screen selecting skills.
The 'glow in the dark' style to this makes for a wonderfully calming effect. Draw shapes or write words with your finger for an immediate effect. A lovely mark making resource that is highly motivating.
There are lots of useful games and resources as part of this app bundle. All geared towards easing anxiety for autistic pupils, can can support all children with anxiety or who have the need for visual cues or visual sensory input.
Colourful bubbles floating on screen, which pop as you touch them. This encourages tracking smaller objects on screen, as well as finger pointing and item selection.

These cause and effect apps can also be downloaded for whiteboards. You have a wide variety of effects to choose from, which react to touch on screen. These can go along with sensory stories or topic themes well in classrooms. Helping you to create a multi-sensory environment at ease.
