Core Word Week 8 - She, He, They

Core Word Week 8 - She, He, They

This week, my Core Word of the Week Programme focusses on three common pronouns: “He,” “She,” and “They.” These words play a crucial role in helping learners describe, identify, and talk about people in their environment. These pronouns can be tricky to grasp, but through structured, interactive activities and plenty of modelling, we can help learners develop a strong understanding of how to use them.

If you're new to my Core Word Programme, welcome! The curriculum consists of 36 sessions of speech and language content that I have designed specifically for the Gestalt Language Processors and pre/non verbal children in your care. It is always a great time to join as you can start the programme at any point, and there's a private Facebook group of other users ready to share advice and collaborate with.

Each session includes links to Makaton sign videos, sensory story suggestions, classroom activities, Attention Autism planning, phrase examples, writing tasks (online and printable), interactive games and links to music and TV clips of the core word in action.

The sessions are completely flexible and adaptable to any communication method, whether that's signing, speech, symbols, AAC devices or others.

  • The sensory story that I am using to model "He, She, They" is "He bear, she bear" by Stan & Jan Berenstain. With a rhythmical, rhyming style similar to Dr Seuss, this book allows for repetition of "he, she, they" and also "we and me".

  • Games related to the core word are always included. This week, the game involves your learners seeing that a person wants something (for example, "he wants the teddy"), and then giving the person the item that they want.

  • There's links to TV, film and song clips that demonstrate "He, She & They" in a fun way.

  • There are writing tasks which can be completed either on a tablet device, laptop, whiteboard, or can be printed.

You can buy the full programme for £35, or individual sessions for £2.00. If you'd like to try before you buy, you can with a free session for Week 1 "I want". Check out my blog posts here to see what I've done for previous weeks of the curriculum.

I’d love to hear how you’re using “He, She, and They” with your learners! Whether it’s during playtime, storytelling, or everyday conversations, how do you help children understand these pronouns?

Join in the conversation by commenting on the blog posts here, following along on TikTok or Instagram, or by joining the private Facebook group for programme users.
