Welcome to my "Ask Me Anything" blog post series!
I answer lots of questions on my social media channels, and it makes sense to share this information (anonymously!) in case it is useful for others, too.
"Please can you recommend ways to encourage children to sit during bucket time? I work in a mainstream school, but I have a child that would benefit from bucket time, however, they want to touch everything. I feel like I am failing in the session."
It comes down to a few things for me:
1 - Be 2 meters away from the children
2 - Supporting adults model expectations
3 - Keep a fast pace (2 mins max for stage 1)
4 - Hide the lidded bucket behind your back when exploring toys
If after trying those the child is still not ready, maybe try intensive interaction until they are; that’s perfectly okay!
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know.
*I am not a doctor or medical professional, so for some questions, you might want to contact your GP, the National Autistic Society, or the NHS.
