Ask Me Anything - PDA Student Who Likes To Throw Things

Welcome to my "Ask Me Anything" blog post series!

I answer lots of questions on my social media channels, and it makes sense to share this information (anonymously!) in case it is useful for others, too.

"Hello. I currently have a child with PDA in my mainstream, early years classroom. He loves to throw anything that makes a bang or even topples furniture. As you can imagine, this makes my classroom provision very tricky! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!"

With PDA, I can imagine he doesn't usually accept an alternative on offer. Hmm tricky tricky….

Could he have outdoor/hall time and have a choice of throwing activities that he can choose from on a written or picture list?

Maybe if he can do this at points in his day, it won't happen in the room. Maybe eventually he could communicate “I need throwing time” and take himself to your outside area to do so with the safer items on the list available to him?

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know.

*I am not a doctor or medical professional, so for some questions, you might want to contact your GP, the National Autistic Society, or the NHS.
